Josh Bishop is head of Merck’s Digital Laboratory Initiative and is tasked with producing disruptive change within a 125 year old pharmaceutical/bio-pharmaceutical research environment to improve efficiencies across all scientific areas. This initiative will focus on introducing an Internet of [Laboratory] Things Strategy for improved instrument connectivity and control, the development of a PC-Less lab leveraging externalized drivers, standardized data ontologies and harmonized interfaces, and lastly leveraging consumer technology – Digital Personal Assistants, Augmented/Mixed Reality, Wearable Technologies and Near Field Communication tactics. With comprehensive ‘Smart’ Technology, how far can we push the boundary of what is possible?
