In my current role as Associate Principal Informatician in the Pharmaceutical Science Digitization Team, I bridge the gap between science and IT by transforming proof-of-concept applications, originally created by scientists to address specific challenges, into robust, sustainable solutions supported by our IT infrastructure. I focus on translating scientific needs into harmonized digital processes, ensuring that innovative ideas evolve into scalable and reliable systems that support AstraZeneca’s analytical chemistry teams for the long term.

My presentation will spotlight our journey toward a fully automated, globally connected analytical chemistry environment at AstraZeneca. I’ll explore how we’re integrating diverse systems to create seamless workflows from the initial analytical request all the way to delivering results enabling true worldwide collaboration. I’ll also highlight automation solutions that work beyond specific instruments or technologies, and share the tangible benefits of standardized, automated data flows for global efficiency, consistency, and precision.

One of the biggest challenges is the variety of practices that have naturally developed at our different global sites over time. Streamlining and harmonizing workflows requires not just technical solutions but real cultural change. Everyone regardless of location needs to be willing to learn from and adapt to others, and invest time in building mutual understanding. By achieving this, we can identify and implement standardized processes that benefit the entire global analytical chemistry community.

I’m thrilled to speak at the Lab of the Future Congress as it’s a great platform to celebrate synergies between science and IT. Our progress isn’t about starting from scratch, but about creatively connecting existing technologies and systems to drive automation and efficiency. Sharing these lessons and successes is key to inspiring progress across our industry and to demonstrate that transformation often comes not from wholesale replacement, but from building on what we already have.

Looking ahead to the Lab of the Future Congress, I’m excited by the opportunities at the intersection of scientific innovation and digital transformation. Building bridges between disciplines and geographies isn’t easy, but it’s critical for delivering new levels of efficiency, consistency, and impact for patients worldwide. I look forward to meeting innovators from across the industry and academia in Amsterdam, exchanging ideas, and continuing to shape a future where collaboration and technology enables us to achieve more.
